FROM
THE PASTOR
People
are often surprised when I tell them that I am not ashamed or
embarrassed to ask for money when it comes to the Church. The
reason why is because asking for money was one of the primary
activities of the Apostles in the early Church. The Acts of
the Apostles describe Peter and Paul as often taking up collections
for the poor and for the Mother Church in Jerusalem. As a matter
of fact, Jesus spoke more about money than any other subject
in the Gospel. The Lord invites us to share our time, our talents,
and our treasure as a sign of our faith in Him. It is often
easier to give of our time and talents than it is our treasure.
For many of us, money symbolizes security and the lack of money
frightens all of us. The tumultuous economy of the past few
weeks and the nervous reaction that this engendered underscores
our desire to have a secure financial future. Yet, it is the
tradition of the Church that we should trust in God’s provision
before all else. The Lord has been so generous to us and we
need to be as generous in our response.
I
have asked the members of the PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL
to speak at all of the Masses this weekend so that you may know
how we have used your generous gifts to carry on the mission
of the Church within our parish and beyond. I am tremendously
grateful to the way in which you have responded to God’s call
to share your resources, and I appreciate that for some of you,
your weekly contribution is a sacrifice of great love. Our parish
has enjoyed a legacy of many faith-filled works that have extended
far beyond our doors into our neighborhoods, community, and
world. As we look to the present fiscal realities, we know that
we have an urgent need to increase our weekly offertory in order
to continue these great pastoral and charitable works that have
always defined our parish family. The Finance Council has been
of tremendous assistance in helping us to exercise prudent financial
restraint in controlling our expenses. But I need each of you
to be equally committed and equally responsive to the Holy Spirit
in your lives. In truth, the Church is each one of us committed
to sharing all that we have with others in order to proclaim
in word, action, and in worship our conviction that Jesus Christ
is Lord. I am asking all of us to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus,
to build a community of real faith, and to reach out to others
in need by increasing our weekly contribution. Let us give because
Christ gave. Let us give because we are never fully human until
we become a giver. Let us give in order to keep God’s grace
alive within us. Let us give most of all because our gift reflects
the nature of God Who gives and gave Himself for us.

withdrawn from your checking or savings account that will be automatically
deposited into the Parish Offertory. Transactions will be made
on the 15th of each month. If you are interested in signing up
for electronic offertory payments, or if you would like additional
information, please contact Jean Lorrey in the Parish Office at

Stewardship
“Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.” -
Matthew 21:28
God
does not just invite us to do His work. He clearly commands us,
“Go out and work in the vineyard.” How can we work in God’s vineyard
when we have job and family responsibilities? We can follow God’s
command through prayer, sharing some of our talents in parish
ministry and donating some of the income we make at our jobs to
support God’s special work in this world.
ARISE
Together in Christ
Prayer
Commitment Sunday
Prayer
commitment response cards may be found in all the pews this weekend.
We ask for your prayerful support for the success of the ARISE
program being implemented in our parish beginning in October.
We need people who are willing to spend some time in private prayer
in order to offer their support for the spiritual renewal of our
parish and the Archdiocese of Boston. Please fill out one of these
cards and place it in the box in the rear of the Church. Your
prayerful support is most appreciated.
