Details regarding specific material, requirements, expectations etc. will be distributed on the first evening of the class.
1. The Ten Commandments: Application of the Ten Commandments to moral decision making by examining the meaning & relevance of each commandment.
2. Nicene Creed: Students examine each point of faith in the Creed according to both traditional circumstances and modern life to see how the Church continues to be relevant and yet is changeless.
3. Church Structure: Students study the roles of the Roman Catholic Church from parish to papal level.
4. Christology: the study of the person of Jesus as a man who lived at a specific point and time in History and how we understand Him as our Lord and Savior.
5. Mass & Liturgy: Understanding the components & purpose of the Mass in Catholicism.
6. Sacraments and Grace: What makes an act a sacrament, how are we changed by receiving a sacrament and why are they gifts from God.
7. Catholic Social Teaching: Our Catholic understanding of the dignity of the human person affects our response to life in all forms and our response to humanitarian issues both domestic and international. Participating in Gospel Road, an archdiocesan sleep over service experience held each summer can fulfill this option.
8. Stewardship & Ministry: By learning and participating in ministries and responsibilities of our parish, students learn that to share whatever we have for the benefit of the community, is our calling.
9. Prayer: Students participate in different styles of prayer available in the Archdiocese of Boston.
10. Biblical Themes: students will study a given theme throughout the Bible.
11. Doctrinal themes: students will study a current event according to Church teaching.
